Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park

Ben has been working a lot on the weekends and evenings so he took Tuesday off and we headed down to Johnson’s Shut-Ins.┬áDespite the popularity of the park, neither of us had ever been. I’ve heard people talk about it my whole life, but it’s about 2 hours away and it was just something we’d never gotten around to.

I felt a little goofy that we’d never been there and never taken the boys. Then we decided to go on a day that barely broke 90 degrees and I felt pretty sheepish.

It. Was. Perfect.

It wasn’t crowded at all!

Oh my gosh we had so much fun. There are sections where you can just swim and float and then there are sections where you can navigate through the large rocks and slide around and find little lagoons.

I wouldn’t have wanted to take the boys any younger because it’s not for the faint of heart. There are huge boulders to climb, deep pools of water. Slippery footing. One lady, fully dressed, slid right onto her butt and soaked us both! Woah.

You can camp there, too, which is a really smart idea. We drove around 2 hours to get there and then played hard for 3-4 hours. Then we had to drive home. We were exhausted. It would have been nice to just crash even if it was just a tent.

Maybe next time. čÖé
